Filming rehearsals and stage shows of independent theater groups, and listening to stage directors who founded or participated actively in them, illustrates the aims of the artists and the difficulties - lacking the means to get to the public at large. The document ends with the get together of 24 such groups on January 16, 1977, in an auditorium sitting 1,000 spectators filled to capacity, to protest against yet another cut in public funding for non commercial groups.
