A short film about the power of love and forgiveness, Breakthrough is set in The Orchard, a residential mental health facility in the tranquil confines of the English countryside. The Orchard's founder, Professor Giddeon Lowry, passionately believes that only by indulging his patients' worlds of make believe will they trust him enough to bring them back to reality. His maverick approach is mocked by the medical establishment but embraced by newly qualified psychiatrist Toby Howlett. Toby is keen to impress his mentor and admits disturbed new patient Judith on the professor's behalf. Lowry conducts the initial interview unaware that Judith's arrival is no accident but part of a carefully orchestrated plan to bring the two of them together.
